Indonesia has 275 museums, which until now its existence is generally not able to fulfill the wishes of the people more intensively. The museum has a strategic role because it has a mandate to:

1. The nation
2. Personality nation
3. National resilience and insight archipelago
Potential Museum is a place of preservation, non-formal education, research, and part of the culture industry. In addition, the interest to establish the museum from time to time tended to increase by the government, individuals, communities, private institutions and universities.

Three main pillars Museum in Indonesia, namely: 1) Educating the nation's life; 2) Personality of the nation; 3) National Security and the archipelago. The third pillar is the foundation of museum operations that are needed in this era of globalization. At the root of society began to lose orientation or cultural identity, the museum can influence and provide inspiration about the important things that must be known from the past to go into the future. Therefore, to put the museum on the actual strategic position, required joint movement strengthening understanding, appreciation and concern for the identity and cultural development of nations that must be awakened at the level of all components of the Indonesian people in both communities locally, regionally and nationally. Joint movement is called the Love the Museum of National Movement (LMNM).

Love Museum National Movement is raising efforts of togetherness among stakeholders and owners of interests in order to achieve the functionalization of the museum in order to strengthen public appreciation of historical and cultural values of the nation. This movement aims to reorganize the role and position of the museum that is focused on internal and external aspects. More internal aspects of the revitalization of the museum in order to strengthen the function of imaging through the approach of management concepts related to the physical and non physical. More external aspects to the concept of packaging the program is using a form of socialization and public campaign on the part of stakeholders. One program is the Visit Museum Year 2010, announced on December 30, 2009 by Mr. Ir. Jero Wacik, SE as the Minister of Culture and Tourism Republic of Indonesia.

Museum as a universal medium for the preservation of cultural heritage, learning vehicle for the community, as well as educational and tourist attraction, should be encouraged to be dynamic and able to serve the public adequately. Indonesia is also known to have the asset of cultural diversity and traditions of a very interesting and varied. With the existence of the Visit Museum Year Programm, is expected to change the image and the face of Indonesian museums became more interesting and more prime so it can also increase the number of foreign tourists to Indonesia.

The museum can not be separated from her collection. Collection is the heart museum. The museum collection should be presented as one important form of communication in an effort to attract people to visit museums. In the presentation of museum collections should consider the value estetic, artistic, educative and informative. In connection with the presentation of the collections of the museum visitors should pay attention to freedom of movement for visitors, visitor circulation museums, museum visitors' comfort, and security of museum collections. The information presented to visitors also have to be communicative and educative, that is at least contain the names of objects, the origin is found, the period and age, and collection functions. Presentation of the collection can be done in three types of exhibitions, namely:

(1) permanent exhibition, is an exhibition that was held within a period of 3-5 years. The theme of the exhibition according to the type, the vision and mission of the museum. Ideally collection presented 25-40% is a museum collection,

(2) Special or temporary exhibition, an exhibition organized museum collection (1 week - 3 months), and

(3) Itinerant Exhibition is an exhibition which was held in collections outside the museum environment.

We recommend using a replica of a traveling exhibition collections, to avoid damage and loss of collections. The collection is owned by a museum in perpetuity necessary to stay awake doing maintenance (conservation) that meet the characteristics and material collections, in this case the researchers collection (curator) in collaboration with the conservator. Besides conservation, need to take precautions against damage to the collection or preservation so that the collection remain intact survival, in these activities required the active role the conservator who should have sufficient expertise about the collection under his responsibility, so do not hang sustainability issues entirely to the curator of collections. In addition, the collection was damaged or fragmentary need to be repaired or reconstructed to its original form can be obtained. Need to do comparative studies with other collections that are still intact and is expected similar to that collection, and reconstructed on paper beforehand, prior to the restoration of the collection.

Museums in Indonesia was established with the aim of creating an institutional preservation of cultural heritage in the broadest sense, meaning not only the physical preservation of cultural heritage objects, but also to preserve the meaning of the objects in the system of values and norms. Thus the cultural heritage created in the past is not forgotten, so it can introduce the roots of national culture used in preparing the national culture. The museum plays an important role in the development of national culture, especially in national education, because the museum provides a source of information covering all aspects of culture and environment. The museum provides a variety of sources of inspiration for innovative creativity required in national development. But museums must still provide recreation for visitors nuance. Curators need to conduct research related to the collection and preparing scientific papers and popular nature. Results of research and writings are published to the public, in this activity in collaboration with the curator of the publication. In addition, the curators with the publications can take advantage of advances in technology with the manufacture of CD-ROOMs and the homepage of the museum. To inform the collection is on display in the showroom to visitors in a complete and systematic, in this activity in collaboration with the curator of education. As the nation's cultural conservationist institutions, museums must berazaskan service to the community. These programs are innovative and creative museum can enhance people's appreciation of the museum.
